Soxy and our Beginnings
Soxy is the reason for our concept and creation. Her owner wanted to ensure she was safe from any emergency, and while completing her engineering degree, the question was asked: How do you fireproof a horse barn? Simple, you don't, unless there is a high risk of injury for someone, whether it's an owner, helper, or first responder. Soxy's owner asked our second most important question: If a barn can't be fireproof, then how fast can the animals get out? A college report, a rough prototype, and a drive to ensure safety for any livestock, that's how we started.
Our Goal
Our main focus is to create a modification to livestock locking systems and then automate them to open in case of an emergency. This allows for simple and effective installation, permitting modifications to be added to any stall door or gate. Our aim is to help reduce or eliminate any livestock or human injury or death when an evacuation situation occurs. Currently, we are focusing on barn fires with a backup manual override, but we have plans to add flooding prevention in the future.
Why do we care
Every animal can have a price put on it, but sometimes the impact that an animal creates for someone is priceless. During an evacuation, many owners will risk their safety to save their animals if there is no time for planning. If you have more than one child, which do you save first? By automating every door/gate, we take that question out of owners' minds. A push of a button or a signal from a sensor, and an area is opened to provide a way out.
When we heard about a fire that took place in Dimmitt, TX that cost the lives of a dairy farm, we started working harder to make this idea real and accessible to everyone. Our goal is to take the numbers from that incident and flip them. 17,000 cows lost in 15 minutes – what if 17,000 cows were saved in 5 minutes?
